Stakeholders and participants who took part at the very first Stability and Sustenance Business Summit held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja recently have advocated for Nigerian government at all levels to set up programmes that will support skills and entrepreneurship development across the country.
At the event held at the Abuja International Conference Centre, entrepreneur-missionary and founder of the business initiative, Melody Fidel advised government to create skills acquisition and self-sustaining entrepreneurship programmes to engage Nigeria’s teeming youths.
According to Melody, “the Stability and Sustenance business platform is geared towards uplifting Nigerian youths through the provision of training, skills acquisition and mentorship programmes as well as providing grants to help grow and scale-up potential businesses. In the past few years, we have continuously catered for over 10,000 youths in terms of mentorship while providing grants to more than 100 businesses identified to have prospective ideas to make significant positive difference in the nearest future.”
“Despite our enormous achievements in a very short time, it is still like a drop in the ocean. That is why we are calling on government in all levels of Nigeria to prioritize skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes across the country in order to provide veritable platforms for Nigerian youths to thrive,” he explained.
In similar fashion, guest speakers at the event including Rishi Harani, Chief Executive Officer of Univesco based in United Kingdom re-echoed the importance of Nigerian youths acquiring skills and embracing entrepreneurship to sustain their livelihood and support the country’s development.
Other speakers at the event who mentored and motivated participants at the one-day summit includes Senator Ned Nwoko represented by his media adviser, Ifetayo Adeniyi; Ayodeji Rasaq, Chief Executive Officer of Red for Africa Group; Precious Akpan, digital intrapreneur and Deraspeaks, a spoken-word minister.
More than 50 of the over 500 mentees of the Stability and Sustenance project ranging from fashion designers, dancers, graphic designers, artistes, photographers and more who converged at the one-day business summit went home with various amount of monetary grants to boost their business idea.
